Privacy policy

This page says what oQuiz does with information. The contact address is hello@oquiz.app.

The short version

A game on your iPhone stays on that iPhone. The leaderboard stays there too. You can play without an account.

An account exists only for a shared quiz: you sign in when a quiz leaves the phone, so other people can add questions. We do not ask for, or store, your email address.

Product statistics are sent only if you turn them on. They are off until you say yes, and you can turn them off again.

On the phone

Questions in the app, your games, scores, solo profiles, and the leaderboard are stored on the device. A living-room game where guests answer by scanning the host's QR code stays on the host's phone, on the local wifi. Those answers are not sent to oquiz.app.

An account

Sign in with Apple, in the app or in the browser. On the web you can also continue with Google, and you can add the other sign-in to the same account. We store the provider's account id, the name you choose, and the avatar you pick. If Google sends an email address with the sign-in, we ignore it.

The browser session is a cookie named oq_session. It is sent only to join.oquiz.app, it is not readable by page scripts, and it lasts 30 days. Signing out on the web deletes that session. A language choice is a separate cookie, oq_lang, so the editor opens in the language you picked.

Shared quizzes

When you write a quiz together, the quiz, the questions, and the membership are stored so the group can open them. Photos you add are stored with the quiz. People in that quiz can see them. An invite link opens the quiz for anyone who has the link, until the owner replaces the link.

A report of a question stores the quiz id, the question id, and the id of the person who reported it. It does not store the question text.

This data is kept by Cloudflare in the EU. It stays until the quiz is deleted, or until you delete your account by writing to us.

GIFs and songs

If you search for a GIF, the search text goes to Klipy so the results can come back. We do not send an advertising id, and we do not keep a search history. A still image of a GIF you pick can be saved with the question.

A song question uses your own Apple Music subscription. oQuiz stores the catalogue id so the song can be played again. The audio file stays with Apple. oQuiz does not sell Apple Music.

Statistics you can turn off

If you switch on "Share game stats", the app sends events to PostHog, hosted in the EU. Nothing is sent before that yes. A no stops it.

The events are: a game started, a game finished, and the unlock sheet opened or purchased. With them we send the mode, whether it was solo or a group, the number of players, the names on the teams, scores, category ids, the language, and whether the library is unlocked. Question text is not included. Names are labels on the event, not an identity: two people with the same name on two phones stay two phones.

PostHog also keeps a device id so events from one phone can be counted together. We do not use the advertising identifier, and we do not combine this with data from other companies. There is no session recording.

You can withdraw the yes in Settings. The game works the same either way. The purchase of the library does not depend on it.

Apple services you choose

Game Center is off until you open it. Achievements stay on the phone first. If you connect a player, that player's achievements are copied to the Apple ID that is signed in.

A reminder for the daily question is off until you ask for one. It stops on its own if the app is not opened. We do not send "you missed yesterday".

Email you send us

A report of a wrong question opens a mail to hello@oquiz.app. You send it. We read what you include.

Children

The kids' questions are content in the app. An oQuiz account is for the person who writes or hosts. Do not sign a child in. The living-room game does not need an account.

Payments

If you buy the question library, you pay Apple. We do not receive your card number.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Write to hello@oquiz.app. If you are in the EEA you can also complain to your data protection authority. In Sweden that is Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten (IMY).

When this page changes, the date at the top changes. The current page is the one at this address.
